How they play?
Intervox design speakers plays completely purely, and in detail. It is detailed in the centre, accurate in depth, overall clean and readable. Instruments and voices are clearly separated and can be easily identified.
Against a more classic design, this shape solves the problem of standing waves, stiffness of construction and diffraction.
1) Standing waves
Standing waves are one of the main factors of the overall distortion of the speaker. This shape, without parallel walls (not even the supports are parallel), prevents it’s formation.
2) Stiffness of the walls
The round shape is generally several times stronger than the flat plate. Exactly for this reason, submarines aren’t square. High rigidity prevents any wall deflections, even at maximum speaker power.
Diffraction is a phenomenon where the sound wave from the loudspeaker hits the edge, bends on it, and then acts as an additional signal source. There is interference with the original wave, resulting in significant ripple of both amplitude (= frequency) and directional characteristics. But the edges are ineffective – The best is when the system is round. Everywhere, even the front wall.
